Biashara Coach: 5 Goal Achievement tips from a young prophet

By Virginia Mburu
Mr. Mwakazi, the Passionate Entrepreneur and owner; Makao Interior Designers came across this quote in one of his learning materials.

He started wondering what was missing from his formula. Is it that he did not really know what he wanted or he did not want it bad enough or both?
At about the same time, he attended a function where the presenter touched on the same issue through a discussion based on 2 kings 2: 1-14. Talk of when you are ready to learn a lesson, certainly a teacher appears.  Mr. Mwakazi was certainly ready to learn and he picked up a few tips  from Elisha as under;
Tip 1......Know what you want
Verse 9-10 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?" Elisha replied. "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elijah said, "You have asked a difficult thing," "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours otherwise not."

It is like Jim Rohn had Elisha in mind in when he said that-
“When you know what you want, and you want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.’” – Jim Rohn

Elisha was crystal clear on what he wanted ....No hesitation.... Just a BIG, I, Present, Simple, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time -bound (BIPSMART) request "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit."

What is it that you desire?  Now multiply that by two... and possibly double it again until when others hear about it, they will respond like Elijah "You have asked a difficult thing."

Tip 2....You’ve got to want it bad, bad, bad!
Yes—such that you will follow through despite discouragement- sometimes from the same people you need badly in order to achieve your goals.

Verse 1-2 “When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel." But Elisha said, "As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel.

Elijah tried to persuade Elisha to remain in Gilgal but Elisha was categorical, "As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you."  The same conversation was repeated when they got to two other towns- Bethel and Jericho.

By the way- could it also be possible that Elijah was testing Elisha’s resolve?  All the same, Elisha was resolute in his position... He had to be in Elijah’s tow. Full Stop!

Sometimes the discouraging voices could be from colleagues just like the company of prophets in Bethel and Jericho. Take a leaf from Elisha- Acknowledge them but keep moving towards your goal.

Verse 3-“The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, "Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?" "Yes, I know,"Elisha replied, "but do not speak of it."

The journey can be long, winding, tedious etc... From Gilgal to Bethel then to Jericho to Jordan and beyond. Yes, be ready for the long haul.   You may get some idea from the map below courtesy of http://www.israel-a-history-of.com/old-testament-bible-maps.html

Whereas the actual location of Gilgal is not certain, it was certainly closer to the  Jordan river than Bethel! Some detours will take you further from your goals... Press on!

 Beware of the many shining objects in between- other opportunities that could cause you to sidetrack from your main goal. In the cities they passed through, there were many opportunities Elisha could advantage of. He could easily have remained there and made a name given that he was Elijah’s assistant. But, that was not BIPSMART!

Tip 3....Know the vital things you need to do to get to your goal
Verse 10 -11 "You have asked a difficult thing," Elijah said, "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours otherwise not." As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.”

From the aforementioned, Elisha knew it was vital to keep “walking along” and “talking together” with Elijah so that he could be present when God took Elijah. And sure enough, he was there to witness this miraculous and spectacular happening! What vital things do you need to do in order to successfully realize your goal?

Tip 4.....It’s time to shed off some “own” garments and embrace some new "cloaks"
Verse 12-13- “Elisha saw this and cried out, "My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them apart. He picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.”

Elisha not only removed but also tore apart his clothes and exchanged them for Elijah’s cloak – a physical indicator that his request to inherit the double portion  of Elisha’s spirit had been granted and he had taken over Elijah's mantle. What thoughts, habits, behaviors, appearances etc. do you need to change or drop altogether?  And which new ones will you adopt to replace these old ones? and have you adorned the new ones yet?

Tip 5....Note the successful strategies, activities, action plans work and put them to good use
Before the miraculous happenings, they had just crossed River Jordan as narrated in verse 8-- “Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground.”

Now we see Elisha replicating the same action and getting same results in verse 14;

“Then he took the cloak that had fallen from him and struck the water with it.  "Where now is the Lord , the God of Elijah?" he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.

The question is—Are you are keen enough to note the success strategies, activities, action plans etc. that work in your area of concern that will greatly  contribute to the achievement  of your goals? If you do, how are you replicating them for more success?
